The Story of Silence

sabbatical logs

I worked on small design adjustments to the site and I am thinking of putting a donation option on the site as well. I would like to set up a donation campaign to keep the site continuously running and support and promote the study of the Italian language and culture.  The donations would be used to keep the site running and also given to organizations that support the Italian language and culture.  I am trying to contact some local, national, and international organizations that would be interested in sponsoring or having their name/logo on the site.   I am also thinking of sending the site to teachers in effort to promote it and get it out to interested classes.  Teachers can use the info in their own classrooms.  I have also been working a bit on other lessons for the individual oral history videos that are already on the site…been busy AND been working on my new home…busy indeed!

Haven’t quite settled into the new home yet.  Have painters currently in the house finishing up some cosmetic work.  Soon the fun decorating part can begin.  I have to say a thank you to the painter, Percastegui painting!  Amazing, absolutely amazing work!  Please, if in need for a house painter and are in the Chicagoland area, call Ignacio a.k.a Nacho.  He works like an artist, great with detail and works clean, quick and affordable!
I have been working on a couple videos that I may upload to the site, not sure yet.  They’re educational videos—online classes on teaching Italian and culture in general.  Not sure if I will add them to the site or use them in a different way…so, a busy week but more to do with home stuff and beginning to prepare for my trip back to Italy.  I can’t wait to see my family again!

I finished the lesson on conducting an Oral history in your classroom, finally.  The lesson can be adapted to any subject matter.  I believe there is great value in implementing a project like this in the class.  The experience is educational and extremely personally rewarding for the student and I believe for the teacher as well!  I plan on adding more lessons based on the interviews already on the Story of Silence site, which will be for subscribers and plan on adding more interviews that may not all be WW2 related.  I would like to provide subscribers other resources as well apart from lessons.  All a process and with time it will be refined and I believe a great resource for both the novice and veteran teacher.  It will also be a great resource for anyone who enjoys learning and views learning as a life-long experience.

Still working on unpacking and the little projects around the house.  There is a contractor currently working on small aesthetic projects in the home yet while he works it makes for a noisy and not conducive working environment for me.  I am STILL working on the lesson plans and doing some outlines for possible future interviews I plan on doing once I am back in Italy.  I may be adding more interviews on a separate page on the site that may not necessarily deal with WW2 stories but rather general stories of people and the events that have happened in their lives.
I had mentioned in the previous post/log that I bought my tickets for Italy and I find that when I use Paul at Interdome, he finds the cheapest tickets for flights that fly direct to Italy.  If you are in the Chicagoland area here is his info:

Paul Nuccio
Interdome Travel
773-792-1600
5057 N. Harlem Ave.
Chicago, Illinois 60657

He is worth a call if you are interested in going to Italy.  I believe he has good deals on flights to other countries as well.

FINALLY DONE!  I just uploaded the lesson on conducting your own Oral History project.  Uploaded it into the Lesson Plan Page.
